Forest Soil
Forest Soil
September 2010
Today is a
Groundblessing of sorts
messy mud and earthwormy earth
becomes hallowed ground
Here I now stand, sit, wait
not knowing what comes next,
a new season where rings
grow round my middle
wide and woody and,
potentially wise
Driving like a Wild Suburban
Woman into Urban
(victorious at parallel parking)
Reckoning with the Divine
in newfound journeykin,
trees of all kinds:
lesbian, gay, transgendered,
black and white and
Rainbowed in a crazy beautiful
cacophony of Praise and Intellect,
a forest of Fear and Friendship,
Faith – Newly baptized in
learning, openness: Fresh Starts
The soil is cold and alive
beneath my naked feet
it is a season of branching out
cracking open, and
Yes! seeding New
Approach every situation as brand new. – Dr. Butler
Embodied Spirit
September 2010
The flesh, naked and unashamed,
still, silent, one with earth
lay like crime scene body
arms and legs splayed and marked
as if with yellow taped outline
No hope or movement
came in or out
No desire or knowing what was
or what wasn’t elevated and
fell beneath pectoral muscle
Mindless, shapeless void
until a wind as sweet
and wild and colorful
as autumn swirled into
nostrils and underneath armpits,
backs of knees, beneath
arch of neck and wrist of upturned palm
Hallelujah: Breath
Hallelujah: Spirit Wind Breath
Hallelujah: Breath floods lobes of
lungs, depressing diaphragm
quickening fingers and toes
A savasana Awakening and:
Life is born
A Spirit was breathed into a body and that’s what makes us live. – Dr. Butler
To See
September 2010
I come to the leaf
as every autumn
expectant of color and crunch
In my hand a corner of
supple green beckons my
thumb with the surprise at chlorophylled life
I come to the familiar cycling argument
with my spouse
venom loaded at tongue’s tip
Swallow, spit or wait? I wonder
waiting is arduous, poison builds
until moments suck it away
I come to the seminary
alone and centered in Question
surprised at welcoming weirdoes
Weirdoes are we together
learning to live and to wait
and to see All Things New
Approach every situation as brand new. – Dr. Butler
